Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) Kanpur is one of the
leading science and technology institutes of India. HBTI Kanpur can
trace its origins to Government Research Institute, Cawnpore, which was
established in 1920. The institute was renamed as Government
Technological Institute in 1921. In 1926, the institute acquired its
present name and came to be known as Harcourt Butler Technological
Institute.
HBTI Kanpur is spread on a campus of 348 acres divided into two parts,
east campus (77 acres) and west campus (271 acres), situated 3 km apart.
HBTI Kanpur offers 4-year B.Tech programs in thirteen branches of
engineering. These are Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer
Sciences & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics
Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical
Engineering, and Chemical Technology (Biochemical Engineering, Food, Oil
and Paints and Plastic Technology). The total intake in B. Tech programs
is 514.
HBTI Kanpur offers full-time M. Tech programs in Chemical Engineering,
Chemical Technology (Biochemical Engineering, Food Technology, and Oil
Technology), Computer Aided Design, and Electronics. The institute also
offers M. Tech (Part Time) in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering
(Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering, and Structural
Engineering), Electrical Engineering (Power Electronics & Control,
Mech. Engineering Design, and Industrial Systems Engineering). Besides
the above programs, HBTI Kanpur also offers MCA and MBA programs.
