Dhirubhai Ambani IICT Gandhinagar
The Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and
Communication Technology or DA-IICT is located at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Gujarat has seen many waves of educational innovation and this
technological institute stands testament to the fourth wave. The first
wave was the nationalist wave which led to the various Gandhian
experiments in education including the Nai Talim. One of the prime
examples of a University based on the Gandhian principles was the
Gujarat Vidyapith that was established in the year 1920.
When the second wave of educational innovation started, it led to the
establishment of a new range of educational institutions in Gujarat,
which mainly consisted ot private colleges. Though the second wave did
not last long, it was the third wave that actually spearheaded the whole
education. It was lead by the industrialist Kasturbhai Lalbhai and the
scientist Vikram Sarabhai. This wave led to the formation of a huge
network of national educational institutions; institutes which were
renowned not only in India but internationally as well.
During the fourth wave, the main aim of the education society shifted to
higher studies and participation of private organizations and
individuals. The DA-IICT was one of the institutions which were created
during this period. The institute was established in Gandhinagar in the
year 2001. It is the only educational institution that is named after
the Late Dhirubhai Ambani, who was the founder of the Reliance Group.
It was on 6th of March, 2003 that the Gujarat Legislature granted the
DA-IICT the status of a University. It was also included as a private
University in the list of Universities maintained by the University
Grants Commission (UGC), on 30th November, 2004. It is a non-affiliating
University and does not receive any aid or other financial assistance
from the State or the Central Government.
