Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics

Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics or N.M.College as it is fondly called is a college of commerce and economics. It was set up in the year 1964 by a charitable trust known as Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal or SKVM. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The college strives for excellence and motivates the students to participate in both curricular and extra curricular activities as well.

Narsee Monjee, who laid down his life for the cause of indigenous cigarette factory, was the first Principal of the college. For over 40 years, it has changed the lives of over 30,000 students and has established itself as one of the most prestigious colleges in India. Every year thousands of students compete to get admission in the college. To bring the students and faculty together, the N.M.College Alumni Association Movement or NaaM was conceptualized in the year 1997 by some ex-students of the college. It brings all the ex-students of the college together, under one roof.

There are various courses on offer for the students in Narsee Monjee College. Apart from the regular courses, the N.M. College also offers many vocational courses for its students. These courses are of two-year duration and are more practical than theoretical. These courses are also recognized by the University of Mumbai.

The college has a strict reputation when it comes to a student's attendance. If a student fails to adhere to the rules of the attendance, they are liable to even expulsion.

Courses Offered
The following are the courses on offer in the Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics:

Undergraduate courses: The admissions to the undergraduate courses at the N.M.College are strongly based on the student's performance in the 10+2 level of CBSE or equivalent examination. These courses are of 3 year duration.

Vocational Courses: To be eligible for the vocational courses, one must have passed the SSC examinations, the performance of which determines his/her admission to the respected course.

N.M College offers 3 year Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree program, 3 year Bachelor of Management Program (BMS) apart from the following 3 types of vocational courses:

The various types of vocational courses on offer at the N.M.College are:
  • 2 year course in Marketing and Salesmanship, recognized by the University of Mumbai
  • 2 year course in Accounting, recognized by the University of Mumbai
  • 2 year course in Travel and Tourism
Eligibility
For admission to the Bachelor Degree programs, the student must have cleared the 10+2 level of CBSE examination or equivalent. The admissions to the vocational courses are given to those students who have completed their SSC examinations successfully.

Admission
Admissions to the Degree Courses at the N.M.College are solely based on the performance of the candidate at the 10+2 level of CBSE or equivalent. The admission to the Bachelor of Management Studies is based on an entrance examination.

Admissions to the Vocational Courses are based on the performance of the students at the SSC examination. After completing the vocational course, the student can choose to join the B.Com course if they wish to.
