Career as Ticket Agent

A ticket agent is a professional working in the ticketing department of airports, bus stations, train stations and major transit centers. The duty of a ticket agent is to sell tickets and provide passenger all the information necessary required for a trip, which includes availability of seats and seating arrangement, flight/train/bus schedule etc. A ticket agent is the first person on behalf of the organization, to meet and interact with the passenger.

Although the job of a ticket agent doesn’t require any specific qualifications, one has to be good at communicating with the passengers, should be able to work with diverse people and should maintain a very level temperament. Those having done graduation or diploma course in ticketing have an added advantage over others having no knowledge about the hospitality industry. Nonetheless, companies (predominantly travel agencies) in India do hire freshers and impart training to them, to become skilled ticket agents.

Course Details
A number of travel and tourism institutes offer courses in ticketing and travel management. These courses are generally provided at the postgraduate degree and diploma levels. To be eligible, a student has to complete his/her graduation in the relevant field from any recognized institute or a University.

Career Prospects
After pursuing course in the field of ticketing, one can work with any travel agency, airlines or at bus/train stations as a ticket agent. After gaining considerable experience in the field, one can opt for working as tour manager as well.
